Nelson Thornes Nelson Thornes is one of the UK’s leading educational publishers providing learning resources from Primary through to Higher Education. It was at this company that I learned about the publishing industry, not only from an editorial point of view but also from that of the client. It is as a result of my work here that I understand the pressures faced by clients and the expectations demanded of them and as such I place great importance on the quality of my own work. QAA safeguards quality and standards in UK higher education, checking how well universities and colleges meet their responsibilities. During my 10 years working for QAA I ran an editorial team responsible for the timely production and publication of review reports. I worked on high-volume publications from a variety of authors, and to strict contractual deadlines set by funding councils. From my experience at QAA I have become an expert not only in the fields of proofreading and copy-editing, but also in terms of workload planning, fast turnarounds and reacting effectively to short-notice deadlines. |
