Proofreading and copy-editing FAQS

How quickly can work be turned around?

Proofreading and copy-editing are tasks that require a flexible approach and fast turnaround times. Emails will receive a same-day response. Short-notice work is welcomed and I offer an ‘out of hours’ service to ensure your deadlines are met.

What are the differences between proofreading and copy-editing?

Proofreading ensures that:

  • typos and spelling errors are identified and corrected
  • punctuation and grammar are correct
  • references and content listings are accurate
  • word use and layout are consistent.

Copy-editing aims to:

  • improve the style and structure so that the text flows effortlessly
  • ensure the language and tone are appropriate to the target audience
  • raise content queries and offer practical advice.

NB: All copy-editing jobs include a proofreading service at no extra cost.

What formats do you work with?

I am able to proof and copy-edit on-screen in Word and PDF, or in hard copy using BSI proofreading symbols (or and agreed style of your choice).

What are your charges?

For proofreading - £6 per thousand words, or £0.60 per word.

For copy-editing (including proofreading service) - £7.50 per thousand words, or £0.75 per word.

NB: All copy-editing jobs include a proofreading service at no extra cost.

What payment methods are available?

I accept payment via Paypal, bank transfer or by cheque.
